Drongoloids!
Welcome back to YEAHS & NAHS, YNR’s weekly recap and recommendations column for paying subscribers, where we catch ya up on what’s dardy as/blows chunks, and tell ya how to get it in ya.
We crossed 1000 subscribers this week, which is bloody YUGE! I’m beyond stoked. I’m loving tinkering with YNR, I’m loving that you’re loving it, I’m loving we all have a little space to be a li’l bit cheeky on a weekly basis, I’m loving I can make up words like ‘daggotry’ and ‘drongology’ and no one can stop me!
Still, this thing is ‘work’ for me, and I can only keep it going with your generous financial support. For just $5 a month you get access to YEAHS & NAHS, my dms, exclusive discounts on all PATRICK MARLBOROUGH PRODUCTS (ignore the recall, the lead in those Patrick mugs is good for you, actually), as well as early previews of some special features n’ projects I have brewing…
Mainly though, for a fiver you are supporting and encouraging my writing. I’ve been in this racket since I was a teenager, and by certain standards I am “successful.” But the industry has never been worse, and for freelancers like me, it’s currently a bit like picking through the drawers in a burnt-out house in a Fallout game. I’m currently trying to fund a small press, an album, the editing of my taped live-show, and future tours. All your $$$ goes towards my art, and better yet, allow me to maintain my, uhhh, ‘unique’ voice/independence and also hire a lawyer when the inevitable defamation suit from Basil & co hits.
So yeah, consider becoming an Elite Tier Drongoloid for just 5 dollarmites a month. I appreciate it so much, as does my Vyvanse dealer.
Anyway, that’s business! Let’s get down to the fun stuff…
THE ROUND-UP!
in which you’re caught up on our goings-on…
wishlist NOCK LOOSE right now, ya dog!
Apologies, but I’m gonna be floggin’ my upcoming debut novel NOCK LOOSE (available in good [and bad!] bookstores everywhere, July 1) here and elsewhere (Alma Street) from now until my job officer tracks me down.
What can I say about it other than it’s real bloody good. If you need more than that but, click on the beautiful cover (by Nathanael Whale) below, read the blurb copy, say ‘ok that does sound bloody good’ out loud to yourself, before proceeding to wishlist that bad boy (I have no idea what wishlisting does, but I presume it confers some sorta magic unto me???).
ps if you’re a book reviewer or close enough, slide into my dms…
Oi! Listen to The Battler, yeah?
If you haven’t already, you should check out
, the weekly Australian news, politics, and culture podcast I host with fellow leftoid, . We have very clever guests on (usually), and we spend half of every episode discussing Australia’s Zodiac Letters, aka ‘The Latham Diaries.’This week’s episode is going up tomorrow morning, but you can catch up on the others on Spotify, Apple podcasts, and elsewhere, or just click on the one linked right here:
YNR on Zionist’s Ongoing Attack on the Arts
Australian artists, and the orgs that purport to support them, had a big week last week, with Khaled Sabsabi feeling the knock-on effect of the campaign to get him delisted as Australia’s representative at the Venice Biennale.
A day after I wrote this, the Brisbane City Council revoked the funding for the Queensland Music Awards as a way of punishing them for giving a grant to Kellee Green for her pro-Palestine instrumental piece, “River to the Sea.”
Things are getting dumb as shit, and those in charge are becoming more cucked by the day. I ranted it about it in last week’s YNR missive. Have a read here:
Australia’s Arts Industry Needs to Grow Some Balls & Tell ZioNazis to Fuck Off
Hello, welcome to another YNR rant that may or may not end my career. To keep me off the streets, you can wish list my upcoming debut novel NOCK LOOSE by clicking here.
A Horse Held at Gunpoint cont’d
I keep forgetting to mention it here, but we do Friday Fictions every Friday (or Saturday, if I forget) here at YNR.
Every week for the past month or so, I’ve been serialising A Horse Held at Gunpoint, my very long screwball comedy novel about suicide and my hometown, Fremantle. It was shortlisted for the Fogarty Literary Award in 2021, the same award Nock Loose was shortlisted for in 2023. It’s still looking for a home…wanna help me find it one? dm me, bucko!
Anyway, you can catch up here. The latest entry has links to the previous chapters up top:

I’m sorry…
YEAHS & NAHS…
ft. Yiz County, Walton Goggin’s Lee Russell, Pleasure Beach, Ghibli AI slop & more!
Before we dive into this weeks YEAHS & NAHS, here’s a gentle reminder that I ditched my definitely too autistic ‘keensey scale’ for two neat categories:
Nah, Yeah: stuff I like 👍 and reckon you’ll like 👍
Yeah, Nah: stuff I don’t like 👎 that sucks big time 👎
Pretty easy to grok, I reckon. Barely autistic at all!
Beyond here is for paying Drongoloids only, sorry chumps. But YNR is cheap as chips, so you might as well fork out a fiver a month to put a smile on my dial and keep me pluggin’ away at this xox
Cheers!
